Co by DEK udelal lepe, kdyby nini programoval TeX?

V jedne slabsi chvili mne napadlo napsat dopis Knuthovi:

Dear professor,

I am trying to learn from the best. You are one of them. TeX is one of the best programs I know. The amazing facts are its stability and operating system independence.

I want to ask you: What would you do better if you will implement it now

(I do not intend to change it).

I have 2 things:

1) Italic correction of boxes (talked personaly on your lecture in Prague - problem with tilded $\int$). The wired thing is imposibility of expandable characters to be expanded in other direction than vertical.

2) I will probably try to use as much of memory as possible for page breaking. It will require other primitives like \maxmem (that will guarant identical output on all machines) and \clearpages (for using on chapter ends, that will act similarly as \par in horizontal mode expect the last box remains open).

Nastesti jsem skoncil u toho, ze jsem vyhledal Knuthovu domaci stranku a dostal jsem odkaz na CSTUG.

V diskusnim foru jsem cetl neco o virualnich fontech ... je to odpoved na 1) otazku? (P. Sojka) 
Tyka se to DVI nebo jen PS? Mam hledat odpovedi v knize Normana Walshe
Making TeX work (mate s knihou zkusenosti)?
Jsem konzervativni clovek, sw si instaluji jen, pokud to skutecne stoji za to, totez se tyka nakupu knih.

Druha otazka ma take konzervativni reseni ... "\vsize odpovida \maxmem",
output routine se muze postarat o naskladani vertikalniho materialu horizontalne a prislusne \clearpages makro prevede na \par. Pak vse dekoduje a necha stranky vystoupit. Zatim jsem to nedelal, ale dokazu si to predstavit.

Doufam, ze i jini budou postupovat timto zpusobem ... nebudou otravovat DEK stupidnima navrhama. Predpokladam, ze kniha Digital Typography na hlavni otazku odpovida. Muze mi odpovedet nekdo, kdo ji cetl?
