          The Future of Documents and Documentation

                        given by

                       Hans Hagen

  Abstract: There will be some major changes in the
  way we deal with documents and documentation in
  the next few years. High quality on line viewing
  will start to replace paper. Instead of ever changing
  word processor formats, open formal document encoding
  formats will take the lead.

  Characteristics of electronic documents compared
  to their paper ancestors will be demonstrated and
  discussed: we should not ignore hundreds of years
  of typographic tradition.

  Aspects of source encoding in XML, transformations
  in XSL, processing using TeX and document distribution
  in PDF will be discussed and shown on examples.

Talk will be given at Faculty of Informatics,
Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic,
Botanická 68a, on Tuesday, March 21th, 2000,
2:00 PM in multimedia auditorium D2.

Hans Hagen at the same place on Monday 20th 1--8PM
and Tuesday 21th 9--12AM, please, register with
secretary at cstug.cz to attend. During the seminar,
one gets an insight how electronic documents
are designed and constructed using Context, tool
developed by speaker.


Hans Hagen is current NTS project leader. He is a
director of PRAGMA, Advanced Document Processing.
